Any time between the parent meeting and the week prior to auditions. Check the calendar for this year’s deadline. Having all parent contact and student information makes the audition process easier for your student. If there are special circumstances in which you want to register your child following the start of auditions, please email info@goldenproductions.org
Auditions
-
Auditions will take place over two days, but students will only need to attend one day.
Students will have a choice of song to sing for auditions, and online access to music and lyrics at least 2 weeks prior to auditions.
Students may choose whether they audition individually or as a group, and they are allowed to bring a printed copy of the lyrics to use during the audition.
-
Harrison Zierer, our director, has been doing this for a long time. During auditions he is looking for kids who appear comfortable, show their personality, seem committed, arrive prepared, and “add value to the material”.
-
Preparing for the audition is recommended so that students feel comfortable at auditions. It can be as simple as singing along with the song a few times, or they can put more time and effort into memorizing, singing on key and showing emotion in the song. Students hoping for leads may wish to spend more time rehearsing prior to auditions.
As a parent, the most important thing you can do to prepare your child is to remind them that MOST students will be in the ensemble, not leads. Have them try their best, have fun, and know that the show will be an amazing experience no matter what role they get.
-
In order to provide more opportunities for students to participate, the play is double cast. This means that there will be two complete casts that will each have three performances on different nights. Rehearsals are generally held with both casts together, but as we get closer to performance week, casts will rehearse and perform separately. Siblings are kept in the same cast, but we cannot guarantee that your child will be in the same performance cast as their friends.
-
Ok, this isn’t really a question, but we would like to remind you of a couple things. There are kids that did NOT get a lead role who wanted one. Accepting a lead role comes with a lot of responsibility.
After you have given your child a big hug, kiss and congratulations, remind them that they need to be thoughtful of others feelings. Then discuss the responsibility of a lead role, especially memorizing lines, music, and dances.
Volunteer Hours
-
Of course! Being on a volunteer crew is easy, and our crew heads will show you the ropes (maybe literally). Just pick the crew that sounds fun to you and come in with a positive attitude and a desire to help. Your kids will be thrilled to see you holding curtains, applying blush, selling flowers, hanging up costumes, or any other way that you show your support for their theater experience.
-
You can do either. Most people like to be back stage with their children, even though you will not be spending a lot of time directly with your child. Some people would prefer to be in the audience and/or “free” when their child is performing.
-
We recommend you volunteer for just one crew. When you work multiple nights on the same crew, you learn your role and are even more valuable. So stick with just one crew. The exception is the Cast Party Crew. If you want to volunteer for the Cast Party Crew, in addition to one of the others, that is doable.
-
No. For safety reasons we cannot have children who are not performing backstage. Also, as a volunteer, we need your attention focused on your job. The one possible exception would be if you have a jr. high or high school aged child who would like to volunteer as an usher for performances. Please contact us if you have a teen that wants to volunteer.
-
The school musical is a HUGE production, and it only works with the efforts of every parent. While many of us have long work hours, small children at home, and a thousand other obligations, volunteer time is required. If you are truly struggling to pick a crew that fits your schedule, please contact us, and do it EARLY. Tickets will not be sold to families who do not have volunteer hours completed, and students may not be allowed to perform. If your schedule is difficult, you need to solve the problem long before performance week.
Ticketing
-
Each family is guaranteed up to 6 tickets. You do not get extra tickets if you have 2 children in the show. Volunteer hours are required to be able to purchase tickets. If there are additional seats remaining, there a general sale for those who still want tickets so they can purchase additional tickets. Keep in mind that tickets do sell out.
-
We use a ticketing process which allows families to choose their own seats when purchasing tickets.
The good news is, there is not a bad seat in the house. Every seat in the Curtis Theater has an excellent view of the stage so that you are sure to enjoy your student’s performance.
